First time I heard Godzilla described as having "human hands, a Bowser face and devil eyes" 🤣🤣❤

One of the most incredible aspects of this film is that it was made with only $15 million. The director played a double role as VFX supervisor and knew exactly how to stretch every dollar and get every shot right. First foreign film in decades to win a special effects Oscar, and deservedly so.

What I like about this movie; it represents what Godzilla was originally intended to portray, the horrors of war and death and the atomic bombing in Japan. We’ve all grown to love him as an iconic character, whether as a hero or villain or, of course, a force of nature. But, this is his origin story retold.

"Come to think of it, this country has treated life far too cheaply."

Godzilla Minus One was my favorite movie of 2023. I saw it in a theater with a sound system so over-the-top that when Godzilla stepped, it felt like an actual earthquake. It was viscerally terrifying, as if the monster was physically real. Sadly, you don't get that experience from watching it at home, but it's still a masterpiece of moviemaking. Think about it: A subtitled Japanese monster movie was the number one movie in America for a couple of weeks, and only through word-of-mouth. Truly a cinematic marvel.

This movie wasn't a monster movie, it was a human movie.

The line "This country has treated life so cheaply recently" - the writing is so good!

The dinner table scene is seriously such a good scene. Love all the "uh, no, dude, you're married, y'all just didn't have a ceremony" facial expressions on everyone's faces.

The reason for the Fish always being dead when Godzilla Appears is because Godzilla would travel underwater at a significant depth, but when it surfaced it would create a current that would sweep up deep sea fish which couldn't equalize the pressure fast enough with their internal bladders and thus they would die from an internal implosion of their bladders....
