That’s pretty interesting about Russia. I’m an immigrant from the former Soviet Union and I have an insider perspective on the activity levels there. It’s not that people exercise, it’s that people live a MUCH more physically active lives. You literally walk to everything, even if you have a car, you rarely drive it. You walk to the store, you walk to school, to the bus stop, to the subway, etc. People who live in rural or suburban areas do everything manually and in those areas every one has a garden. The short live span though is due to massive consumption of alcohol I’m sure.
Thomas really led people astray with this one. Virtually every single pickled product on Modern grocery store shelves in the United States is not a fermented pickling process. They're just adding vinegar and chemically making pickled products. There are no probiotics in these, nor none of the other short chain fatty acids that are made from the fermenting process. You'll have to find a product that is truly fermented or make your fermented pickled products at home. This is so important and I that there's going to be hundreds if not thousands of people that watch this video and then start eating vinegar made pickled products thinking they're getting a bigger health benefit than they actually are. I mean, the vinegar is very helpful but that's only part of it for True fermented vegetables. Much of the health improving aspects of fermented foods is not just the probiotics but the actual short-chain fatty acids and other posts fermentation compounds that are doing the heavy lifting with the health benefits.
Yep, that's true. We eat pickle food, we eat kasha (oatmeal is very popular too), we eat rye bread (black bread). That's interesting to know something new about our familiar lifestyle. Thank you for your work, I watch all your new videos every day with great pleasure. Greetings from Russia.
I live in Russia🇷🇺, and its a LOT of carbs. But not much fast food, and people do walk a lot and work in their gardens. Not many obese people here.
Latvian here.. we eat also fermented cucumber not just pickled. We also eat a lot of sauerkraut.. kefir.. cottage cheese with sour cream... our downfall.. of why logevity isnt high is probably too much alcohol.. and too much cheap modern foods, that half of the population loves. But if u just go traditional, then it Kefir with every meal, herbal teas, cottage cheese, sour cream, dill, sauerkraut, cucumbers and tomatoes, buckwheat or potatoes..
I love your content! I'll be 55 in 2 months, and what's kept me healthy and the same weight since high school is quality protein, lots of vegetables, some fruit, and healthy fats along with strength training and walking with some running incorporated into the walks. My labs are ideal; my weight stays the same, and I have no belly fat. I avoid ultra-processed foods and sugar, and I especially avoid any and all extreme approaches to diet and exercise.
First! I’m trying to get back into IF for weight loss. Your videos helped me lose 50+ pounds back in 2018!
Standard "pickled" veggies made with vinegar are NOT the same as "fermented" veggies, which have the probiotics and healthy properties... Those are made with just water, salt, and pickling spices, and are left out on the counter for at least a few days to ferment. After whatever you are fermenting is sour enough, then you put the jar into the fridge to keep the contents fresh, and the fermenting process stops under refrigeration...
for the last 6 months i have been fermenting EVERYTHING and WOW what a difference in my digestion and overall health... i do bean sprouts and salad sprout mixes and ferment them too... make my own fermented dairy (YT search for Dr Davis' SIBO yogurt recipe) and my daily desert is milk kefir/berry smoothie...
