Using AI generation for crimes probably should be a serious crime. Make it a 1-year additional felony charge the same way stealing someone's mail is.
Using someone's beloved pet against them is disgusting.
Love how these scammers have evolved enough to use AI, but are still stupid enough to ask for 5 Walmart gift cards as payment and think it won’t raise suspicion
if my pet was stolen like this, I'd devote the rest of my life to mastering a particular set of skills.
Charlie's confidence his mum would just start blasting fools if it kicked off is amazimg
Scammers called me with an AI generated voice of my mother. They claimed to have kidnapped her. They had enough information to get her voice so perfect that with the audio corruption of the telephone it sounded real. But they didn't have enough to know that we've been estranged for a decade at that point with no contact. Was weirdly cathartic
The shittiest part about this whole situation is the fact that the people behind this scam/kidnapping of the dog will most likely never receive any sort of punishment for such a horrible act and will continue doing it
My dad got one of those AI phone calls. He said it sounded exactly like my sister crying, panicking saying she was kidnapped and that they wanted money. At the time, my dad was working a half an hour away from home, and my sister was off work that day, so my dad flew home to check, and my sister was chilling on the couch. Poor man wasn't right for a few days after that. He got a genuine scare because he wouldn't know anything about AI.
I doubt they returned the dog. They dumped it and the dog found its way back home.
They didn’t return the dog. This happened to me. The scammers monitor next door and other social media looking for people who post pictures of lost pets and use the picture to generate AI pics. The dog was lost and found his way home.
