How did you find cleaning the Gel Bottle, Ben ?
I thought the powder funnel was just for being able to get a scoop into a narrow water bottle neck, not that it was supposed to be mobile. I thought it worked pretty good for like getting a scoop and then putting it into a Powerade bottle or something like that.
Trail runner here with deviated septum : nasal strips are a godsend, not the specific ones in the video, I just use the regular cheap "nightime" ones , just wipe the area where you'll place the stripe with some alchool disinfectant (I always carry one use clorexidine wipes) press firmly rubbing a little for at least 10 seconds and presto! Should be fine for hours of running (and I sweat a lot).
If the main benefit of the oats is carbs, with nothing extra added that's particularly beneficial, then you can buy a massive bag of Flavahan's (super chunky, excellent carb load) and some cocoa powder for less than a fiver in Waitrose and probably get more portions for pennies compared to £2/portion from a running nutrition brand. Products like that and the waffles always feel like a really shrewd cash grab.
GU used to make these flasks back when they sold their gels in large 15-serving pouches. I used to use them all the time to reduce waste. They worked decently well, but were a bit of a pain to clean, and it was hard to squeeze all the gel out because of the thicker material. They also didn't fit into pockets as well since they were larger. Then GU discontinued the large gel pouches due to manufacturing problems and I haven't used them since. I wouldn't consider filing them with individual pouches now because it doesn't reduce waste, except maybe while out on a run where I can't find a garbage container. My advice: don't bother.
Have to admit that I don't follow much running media these days. This popped up today as suggested, and I'm absolutely stoked to see you're still at it. Ben Parkes, you are a good egg.
I got the same set of Garmin USB-C adapters. One for the charger next to the couch, one for my office desk, one for the travel bag, ... 100% worth the money, even though one of them makes bad contact and is rather iffy. For tight muscles in the neck I use a "trigger bow" with a roller ball remotely similar to the device you showed. It can work wonders on a stiff neck and ease the pain. Didn't try the shoe-hole patches, but something similar you showed for the heels there. That turned my Boston 12 from "blisters after 400m" into a 30km long run shoe.
I can only warn you to NOT WAER MAGNETS on your race number if the time chip is included. My wife missed sever time stamps on the 21 k in italy garda and we can only think of it was the magnets. Be aware that the magnets can affect your time taken by the officels ❤
An ice bandana actually could be really dangerous. By putting something cold on your neck, you are tricking your brain into thinking you're not actually that hot. Reducing your sweating, potentially overheating yourself.
