As a doctor, I can honestly say this is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. True Health Made Simple by Alex Richardson is on another level.
My mother passed away(due to a fall hitting her head) just a month short of her 98th birthday. She was still mostly sharp as a tack. I could pull out very old photos from her youth and she could literally tell me who everyone was in those old photos. Luckily no brain dysfunction even though she developed type 2 in her later years. Her father lived to 102 even as a type 1.
Just lost my 87 yr old alzheimer client yesterday. In 3 short years went from high functioning to non verbal, wheel chair bound. Very sad.
I have been my mom's caregiver starting around 2021, her age was 84, when it was becoming obvious she could no longer live alone due to dementia....my wife and I sold our house and moved in with my mom, who had a very nice place, who she initially lived in with my dad, who passed in 2014. Fortunately we were in the same small town....my mom passed away a month ago, and the journey that involved watching her cognisant ability decline was truly horrific. Watching and dealing with that day to day slide into oblivion was really hard. Sure, she was now 89, but she was still a living, breathing human being and was my mom. She would have very brief moments of clarity, which was actually harder to deal with than not, as it reminded me of how she was before things got really bad......I am now, at 69, doing everything possible to avoid the same fate, and there IS a lot one can do!
I think the guy's name : Val Kilmer owns a couple of nursing homes where he serves ketogenic meals. And patients are going home!
My sister passed from atrophy of the brain that caused dementia and aspiration pneumonia. The nursing home she was in kept her blood sugars high and tried to cover it with medication.
I care for 2 people, 1 who has Dementia and the other Alzheimer's. It's much harder to care for someone with Dementia. They just keep looping the same conversation or questions.
Thank you for answering my question, Dr Boz and team!
My concern is that the study talks about the standard deviation of visit to visit A1C measurements, and Dr. Boz is talking about variability within one day.
I was keto from reading your book in 2018. Got alpha gal and covid in 2021. Tried to continue keto but mcas and lack of food I could eat caused 24/7 itching and loss of weight. Still trying to heal but couldn’t maintain keto for lack of foods to eat…help??
