Understanding Benzodiazepine Injury: Withdrawal, Keto Repair, and Specialized Tapering
Learn why stopping prescription benzodiazepines often causes severe neurological injury, mirroring Jordan Peterson’s crisis, and discover the essential metabolic steps required to support safe brain recovery.
Short Summary
- Implement the ketogenic state first to nourish the brain before attempting any medication reduction.
- Recognize that severe benzo withdrawal involves neurological injury, often misdiagnosed as a new psychiatric condition.
- Avoid stacking sedatives, opioids, or Z-drugs, as this prevents critical neurological receptor healing.
- Long-term psychiatric drug studies rarely exceed one year, leaving patients vulnerable to dosage increases or long-term side effects.
This discussion centers on the severe risks associated with chronic benzodiazepine use, illustrated through Jordan Peterson’s highly publicized withdrawal struggle and a detailed patient anecdote. Dr. Boz emphasizes that chronic use causes receptor damage, transforming initial anxiety relief into dependence managed by a paradoxical anxiety response. The session stresses that recovery demands supporting the brain metabolically via ketosis before initiating a slow, micro-tapering process, highlighting the necessity of specialized professional guidance.

LETS ALL PRAY FOR JORDAN PETERSON ❤✝️🙏🏻
My wife has been on Klonopin for probably 10 years or more for night terrors. She was up to 2 mg but we decided to start tapering her off 0.25 mg less every two weeks. From what you are saying it looks like it should be more like every 4 weeks. She is definitely showing very strong signs of dementia and I try to convince her to do a ketogenic diet but she just refuses because she is so much in love with her sugar and junk food. Maybe if she watches this video it will be a wake up call. Please pray for me.
I discovered this man, this jewel about 8 years ago. Prayers for him.
Congratulations on the 1,000,000!🎉 Valuable information!
I was on antidepressants for 20+ years. Doctors just kept renewing the prescription.. even upping the dose with the slightest mention of my depression not much better... and supposedly to help hot flashes (although in the fine print it states Effexor causes heat intolerance and increased sweating!!!). I dropped a portion of my dose after going keto almost 8 years ago then asked my PCP how to continue to taper. Terrible advice (drop dose in half this week then just stop next week!!!). So I started researching and learned how to taper on my own, very slowly over a 2 year period. Had some symptoms but totally manageable and nothing like the horrible brain zaps, nausea, headaches, muscle aches, depression and anxiety, and jumping out of my skin that I had while trying my Dr's advice!!!!! 🙄 Now, 2 years freedom... feel more like my true self than EVER BEFORE. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I used to be addicted to clonazepam for 17 and a half years for sleep, and I spent thousands of dollars every year to take a bunch of supplements to help my brain and support sleep to go with the benzodiazepines. It took me 3 and a half years to quit, and I started sleeping naturally when I tried out a high fat low carb diet. No-one should try to quit fast. Slow and steady wins the race.
Terrifying. A case of the cure being worse than the disease perhaps
He’s an incredible man! Praying for his total healing! Dearly loved!
This happened to me about 20 years ago. I was only on the benzo for 2 weeks, when a doctor to me to stop taking what another doctor prescribed. Upside down anxiety. You mentioned chronic use, and the drug slowly eating away your brain nerves over a long time. No! I took one pill a night for ONLY two weeks to sleep at night. This stuff binds to your receptors in a very short time! Trust me I know first hand!! By the Grace of God I found a support group online that mentioned the Ashton method. I had to reinstate and do a slow water tritiation taper that took me about two years, because I wanted a complete healing. I’m fine today. But, I kid you not, this is not from some chronic long term use, it can happen in two weeks!!! I paced, I didn’t sleep, I had unnatural fear, and constant anxiety. It QUICKLY took over my brain. Just FYI this stuff isn’t safe for even short time use. Please never touch this stuff. Thank you for warning people.
I love Jordan. Sometimes I cry listening to him and watching him. He’s authentic.
