Description

Dr. Martin Picard, PhD, is a professor of behavioral medicine at Columbia University and an expert on how our behaviors and psychology shape cellular energy production and rates of aging. He explains that your mitochondria don’t just “make energy”; they translate what you do—your mindset and your relationships—into the energy you experience as vitality or lack thereof. He explains how exercise, nutrition, sleep, meditation, and even certain thought patterns and our sense of purpose can charge our cells like batteries. He also shares findings that hair greying is the result of cellular stress and is reversible. This episode links physical and mental ‘energy’ with cellular energy and provides science-supported tools to improve your physical and mental health. I am worried about my energy level. I think I might be a mitochondriac.

I absolutely love when Dr Huberman has a guest like this and they get talking fast and in a flow state. Their depth and width of knowledge, passion and ideas combined with comfort with each other to create and share is so inspiring to see. We are lucky to be exposed to such bright humans in this state.

Dr. Huberman, would you please consider doing an episode on chronic inflammatory conditions and science-based methods that can improve the quality of life for people who suffer from them? I suffer from Long Covid (for all practice purposes, CFS) and a number of other related conditions, and I know many others who suffer from similar conditions as well. Your podcast is down-to-earth and incredibly helpful, and I would deeply appreciate an episode specifically addressing this issue.

I'm infected by Dr. Picard's energy about energy. This is one of the most passionately engaging individuals I've ever listened to. I agree with Dr. Hubie, bridging the gap between woo and science has never felt so good and real.

The science here is fascinating. Understanding mitochondria feels like unlocking a cheat code for longevity.

This hair conversation is SOO AMAZING to me!! I’m a hairstylist for 25 years and science nerd. So I love this podcast…. The biggest questions I always get are about graying of the hair. But I love the part where they talk about collecting hair and going back into the persons life to find the stress. I have had a client who has Virgin hair. She has a health condition and had been in the hospital, had a procedure. The next time she came for a haircut, her hair had a kink in her naturally straight hair all the way around, and the color above the kink was a different color and texture than below the kink. I have been so intrigued by this. I was able to trace back her body trauma and it was spot on to where this kink was located. I really need to become a trichologist LOL. Thanks for this AWESOME podcast guys!!!❤

I was a nurse for 28 years a very burned out and stressed. I had a fatty liver and was very tired all the time and changed my diet. I’ve always been a positive person and listen to music for enjoyment. I have been told I have good energy and I hope you have any hair, but I’ve had my health issues changing my diet and removing myself from that special career has helped.
