Fyi...Dr. Grunch is my son's Neurosurgeon. He was in a horrific car accident and as a result ended up with a traumatic brain injury. That was almost 12yrs ago. He's not perfect but her knowledge and abilities have allowed me to have all this time with him because he wasn't supposed to survive. Great podcast! Thank you again Dr. Grunch! Forever grateful!
While everyone is talking about losing weight in 2026, I started my healthy era in November and entered the New Year 11 pounds lighter.
Pilates changed my life. Great for the core. Do it!! Started at 58, now 61, almost 62. Mostly "old ladies" in there, so it's NOT intimidating.
When we were 22, my then boyfriend broke his neck while surfing. He became a c4-5 quadriplegic This was in 1984. I provided 100% care when he was discharged from rehab. I was given no “instructions” on his care except for his catheter. Changed my life. We were married for 9 years until he passed away.
I am usually the oldest person lifting weights and the only woman also lifting. So glad I have a great gym and other women have told me I inspire them, I’m 68 years young. I have improved my bone density immensely from lifting weights.
As I was watching this, I noticed my 12-year old daughter with her lap top on the floor, looking down at it. I told her what I was watching and she got some boxes and made a table that put the lap top screen at eye height. Hopefully this has helped her future.
Orthopedic PT here ✋if bridges bother you, you might be arching your back too much. Try performing a posterior pelvic tilt before you lift your hips, tucking your tailbone underneath you and leading that hip lift with your tailbone. Focus on pushing with your glutes rather than just your hamstrings For the birdog, if being on all 4s bothers your knees or wrists try an incline birddog leaning against the counter instead.
"don't think that any symptoms that you're having should be dismissed", the most validating phrase. Kudos to the Mel, Dr. Grunch, and the whole team. Great episode 👏
Doctors not knowing nutrition in western medicine is the BIGGEST problem! Food is medicine and medicine is food!
I’ve avoided low back surgery 3 times by getting into running and losing 80 lbs. Consistent movement is a miracle drug! As a caregiver to a husband with a rare disorder 18 years ago gave me motivation to change my life. Now at 55, my chronic pain is way way better and I know I have the power to transform my body. I’m still healing from childhood trauma but movement has saved me. Thank you for sharing your unique personal and professional perspective.
