Thank you so much for having me, Mel. Grateful for the space you created to have such a real and layered conversation. It meant a lot to speak openly, and I hope the words resonate with whoever needed to hear them. Honored to share this moment with you.
As a Liberian, am very, very proud of my bro and countryman, Mon Rovia. Thanks for hosting him and giving him/us the space and platform to share his story/our stories as a whole. As a victim of the Liberian civil wars, and worse of all being born and raised through those horrible times in our country historyâŚit takes God or some spiritual power to help you heal, forgive and move on. Itâs not an easy thing for the human spirit to endure. Mon Rovia articulated these emotional feelings and memories well. The rawness of his story brings tears and relief at the same time.đŤ âď¸ and â¤ď¸ đąđˇ to the đ !
As a mental health professional, Iâve worked with many adopted children and teens, especially those adopted from volatile environments and placed in families of different racial or cultural backgrounds. One common theme that arises is the assumption that once a child is brought into a "better" situation, they should feel healed, whole, or simply grateful. But adoption doesnât erase grief, confusion, or loss. Many adoptees continue to carry questions like: Why was I saved and not my siblings? What happened to the family I left behind? How do I reconnect without feeling guilty? Even when their early environments were traumatic, adoptees may still long for connection with their roots. They may miss the parents they lost, the siblings theyâve never reunited with, or the culture they were disconnected from. These feelings are not signs of disloyalty, they are part of a healthy identity formation process. Cultural roots and family history, no matter how painful, shape who we are. Ignoring that past can create emotional distress and a sense of emptiness. Healing comes through integration, not erasure. This version of Mon Rovia is both awareness & healing, and I love this for him.
This episode was heartwarming to me as we are in the middle of Iran-Israel War and I am safe in Canada but left my family in Iran, and ashamed of myself every moment. After a week on non-stop feeling guilty this episode help me to get out of this cycle and breath. Thank you both, It was incredibleâ¤
His music simultaneously brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. His voice is like a warm blanket or a meditation. Such a gift to all of us.
Liberia is proud of you, Mon Rovia! Keep it burning.
Mon Rovia is a walking phenomenon! I started following him when he literally has 500 followers! I was blown away! Iâm so glad the rest in the world is getting to know him and seen how amazing he is! đ may the lord help him heal the world! Without any record deals so he doesnât become enslaved to such an evil industry! đâ¤
Im Mexican and was adopted into a white family. And like he said, Iâm grateful but it has created such an identity crisis because I am not from there nor from here. Iâve felt my whole life like Iâve not belonged here nor anywhere.
He is Johjay, Mariaâs son from Liberia West Africa, this made me tear up, so beautiful to acknowledge, so proud to hear him say this.
âWhen you fall in love with your suffering you decide not to hear those things anymoreâ wow
