I hope you continue this series with Peter Sellers. They get better and better. Herbert Lom as the increasingly twitchy Inspector Dreyfus is priceless.
It is amazing to realise that David Niven and Robert Wagner were the intended stars of this movie and that Peter Sellers was brought in simply for a cameo appearance as Inspector Clouseau. However, when Director Blake Edwards witnessed Seller's genius at improvising scenes, the Clouseau role was expanded and new scenes were written and filmed. Even David Niven admitted afterwards that ( even though he had top billing ) Peter Sellers was the real star of The Pink Panther film.
The original is a classic, but โA Shot in the Darkโ is even better
The second film, "A Shot in the Dark" is my favorite from the franchise. It wasn't originally written as an Inspector Clouseau movie, but was an adaptation of a stage play. They rewrote it to include Clouseau. It's the only movie without "Pink Panther" in the title. Also, you definitely have to watch them all. Peter Sellers continued making the Pink Panther movies until he passed away. They had a following and made profit all the way through. They even made one more in his honor.
"Charade" will give suspence, romance, intrigue, comedy, with a distinctly Hitchcockian flavor, without Alfred Hitchcock's involvement.
The cartoon at the beginning of the film was so popular that they created the entire Pink Panther series around it for kids.
Hi Cassie, hope you follow up with "A Shot in the Dark". You'll love it. Say hi to Carly! ๐
No offense to Steve Martin... but there is only one true Clouseau. Peter Sellers was a brilliant comic genius. The next couple of Pink Panther movies are hilarious. Once you get to know Peter Sellers, you must watch Being There.
The LEGENDARY Peter Sellers was only supposed to be a cameo in his role as Inspector Clouseau. His improv at physical comedy changed all of that. Sellers is the reason there is a Pink Panther franchise. Clouseau became the main character. I hope you watch them all with Peter Sellers. The man was a genius actor at so many levels.
When I was a kid, this was one of my favorite comedy series of movies. "A Shot in the Dark", "Inspector Clouseau","The Return of the Pink Panther", "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" were all hilarious.
