I lived on bread and butter and coffee in Paris and Italy pasta pizza and was 💯 fine the whole time. Here one time and I pay for it. American “Enriched wheat” 👎🏽
As a Turk, I couldn’t agree more. Here are a few additional points: 1. Oils and Fats: We don’t typically use avocado oil. Instead, we use olive oil, butter, and sheep or beef tallow. Our diet includes plenty of fish, nuts, and olives. For instance, I eat 10-20 olives for breakfast. Breakfast without eggs is normal, but not without olives. We also eat bread, but it is different from the packaged varieties. Our bread comes straight from the bakery, made with basic ingredients (flour, yeast, salt, and water) and is consumed fresh within a day or two. We also sometimes make village bread, which can be stored in a cool place and doesn’t expire easily. This bread is very fulfilling and was a staple in the past. It is one of the most natural breads you can find, in my opinion. 2. Shopping Habits: My mom never buys groceries from stores. She goes to farmers’ markets and buys from specific vendors. She has a cheese vendor, a fruit vendor, an egg vendor, and so on. 3. Fruit Consumption: We eat a lot of fruits, and they are always served when friends come over. 4. Beverages: We drink black tea all the time and Turkish coffee occasionally. We believe both tea and coffee are healthy. 5. Dairy Products: Goat milk and buffalo milk are highly valued. Whenever we find a villager selling goat milk, we buy it in bulk and make cheese, yogurt, and ice cream from it. 6. Canned Goods: We never buy canned goods. If we need canned tomatoes, we prepare them at the end of summer, mostly around early September when tomatoes are fully grown, rich in flavor, and cheap. We do the same with peppers, making paste out of both. 7. Fish Consumption: We try to consume as much fish as possible when it is in season. 8. Vegetables and Legumes: We eat a lot of vegetables and legumes. Lentil soup and beans are staples in our diet. 9. Physical Activity: We walk a lot. Even the elderly walk more than young people in the US. Walking is a routine part of life for everyone. 10. Social Interaction: We are social people from ages 7 to 70. I believe mental health is crucial for overall health. Most of these practices are true for people living in smaller cities and are still followed by the older generation. However, the newer generation tends to prefer fast food like McDonald’s instead.
Just checking the average lunch break in France is 2 hours 2 hours in Spain and 3 in Greece less stress and maybe the extra red light and Vitamin D from the Sun is boosting the mitochondria
I've been doing the intersection of Mediterranean and keto for 10 years. It's been very sustainable for me.
The whole point of the “Mediterranean diet “ is that it’s real food, not processed garbage. The exact macros are irrelevant. Quality is the focus.
Nice Video. Greetings from Tuscany, Italy. 😉
you are basically advocating for walkable cities and you would have to petition to become a governor you would have to go full boeing on some car ceo
Going to Italy end of January 2025. Can’t wait!🙏🏼
Everything in america is based off of shelf life, for the economics. Even a Italian dressing is soybean oil for its base....you have to cook from scratch and control yiur ingredients
One huge clarification. The region of the Mediterranean that inspired the Mediterranean diet are the Mediterranean islands. Those diets include lentils, chickpeas, and WHOLE grains. We're not talking piles of pasta and pizza here. Sustained moderate activity, a desire to be here, wild and homegrown vegetable matter, (clean) meat and fish are probably the keys here. Along with moderate calories and maintaining a proper weight.
