Look, we have our own issues in Europe, here in GB in particular (we’re slowly heading your way, down the US road with Ultra Processed cr@p) but yeah, when we see what the average American eats, DAMN Bro, they’re killing you people with poison. Also the tendency to oversize everything there, what’s that about? Fast Foods, Sodas, etc…. It’s just JUNK. We have LIDL supermarkets here and they’ll do an Italian week, where you can pick up Italian style delicacies, A French week, A Bavarian week, etc and they’re all worth buying into. The American one by contrast is Deep pan pizza, Hotdog sausages, Potato Chips (Crisps as we call them) and a few BBQ sauces, etc….. it’s garbage. We’re all farmed, but nobody is farmed like Americans, they charge you for poisonous food and then charge you for healthcare and bombard you with drug advertising 24/7. For my mind, America is a very sick society (in many aspects TBH).

My own experience in France and Italy recently is that after about 5 weeks, I had lost about 5kg. The time of when I ate did not change, the amount I ate was about the same but with maybe a bit less snacking. The major difference I feel is that the quality of the food was high and I did a lot more than 20,000 steps per day. Note that this weight loss was after having bread everyday in France, gelato in Italy every day and a small beer and a bottle of wine (shared with my wife) each day in both countries.

Easy reason: we don't eat as much fast food and processed food as in the US - we eat real food. Plus portions are smaller- not everything has to be XL over here. Plus we walk and don't drive everywhere

Just returned from first trip to Italy for 2 weeks. We ate pizza, pasta, gelatos galore. Did not gain any weight, but our daily walking was immensely more than here in states. The food was amazing

As a French person, I was taught from a young age to eat a variety of foods and, in particular, to include vegetables and fruit with every meal. I also make a point of avoiding ultra-processed and overly sweet foods. In addition, I walk every day and take every opportunity to stay active, such as choosing the stairs instead of the lift.
