It would be interesting if they could start giving MRI's to people in their 80's who passed away to see how many people had Cancer and had no problems and never even knew.
My mom who lived to 95 had the following health advice, "stop looking for things, you might find something". Turns out she was right.
Doctors didn't want to do an MRI on an an inflamed stricture in the distant colon for 3-4 years. Then they only did it, because I got one of those unnecessary unadvised CEA cancer markers. It was stage 3b colon cancer.
The internet is making us sicker
Living in Korea; after a serious bike accident, I had a CT scan because ER doctors were concerned I must have broken bones. None detected, but the doctor informed me I had gallstones. When I asked my primary care doctor what I should do, he said no intervention was needed. Same for a tremor condition diagnosed by having me alternate movement and relaxation. There were medications that would reduce symptoms, but really no cure. And a major relief that diagnosis did not involve more risky tests. So there are experienced doctors around who follow the minimalist approach.

same thing with skin cancer. for years people never saw a dermatologist. then they started going and skin cancer rates started going up. then doctors started logging every little basal cell carcinoma as a skin cancer and as many people with basal cell carcinomas have ten 50 of them, They started counting every single one of them as a skin cancer in the data
Medical errors, misdiagnoses, and infections are surprisingly common. Stay out of hospitals unless you need to be there. Also, in the case of public health systems, you'll be wasting money and resources that could be better spent on those who need the care.
My mother had a doctor that turned her away as a patient because she refused to have mammograms or pap smears. He said he wasn't going to have the family come back on him and say he didn't do all he could have done if she ended up having something. She said that if she had something she didn't want to know. Sadly I think it's more about repeat business than it is finding diseases. When I grew up you went to the doctor if you had a problem, now the doctor's office has a sign that says if you don't make appointments at least every 3 months they don't want you as a client. Their offices are booked full with all of these routine tests so that when you actually have something seriously wrong and need an appointment you can't get in for months. The priority seems to be herding 100 people in for testing to find the 2 or 3 people that have an issue but then they take a lower priority because it takes months to get them in for more testing and treatment because the office is booked full, basically testing healthy people hoping to find a sick one.
I had an incidental finding of a 4cm polyp in my sinus cavity… after I had it removed I couldn’t believe the relief I felt 😅 I was so used to feeling like shit before that I didn’t even think anything was wrong 😂
