The 2 year AVADEC trial investigated whether daily 720 Β΅g Vitamin K2 MK-7 slows heart valve calcification. While MK-7 supplementation generally did not halt valve calcification, researchers observed fewer adverse cardiac events (e.g., heart attacks, surgeries) in patients taking the supplement compared to those on a placebo. K2 significantly slowed the progression of coronary artery calcium, especially in patients with severe baseline calcification scores (> 400). The new Dutch study also verified that it slowed calcification and it said; "No significant adverse effects were associated with MK-7 supplements." So it appears it does not cause more heart attacks nor is there any evidence of overdosing on the higher amounts so why the anxiety over it? Why would he recommend going down to 90 Β΅g? Is he just playing it safe until we get a 20 year study? If so then how does less heart attacks and slowed calcification because of K2 cause him to say less vs keep going? There's evidence of less heart attacks and slowed calcification VS ZERO evidence of more heart attacks. Look at the target group; People who have atherosclerosis. It's a self feeding disease that once it starts it doesn't stop. Why would you tell such a group to wait for a 20 year study result that hasn't even started to stop taking the amount that slows calcification and reduces heart attacks? The average person dies in their 70's so you're telling 50 year olds to wait until their 70's for the result of a 20 year study? I'm baffled by this. No offense Doc.
Regarding vitamin K2 MK7, bone health specialist Dr. Doug Lucas said he is moving away from supporting MK7 alone, as it has not been shown to reduce fracture risk or increase bone mineral density to the same extent as MK4. MK4 studies show proven fracture reduction supported by extensive clinical data that is largely unavailable for MK7. While 45 mg/day of MK4 is the gold standard for fracture reduction, some research suggests that doses as low as 1.5 mg to 5 mg daily in divided doses can still help improve bone quality and lower markers of bone breakdown. So I take both MK7 and MK4 in low doses.

Own experience with K2: With toothache I take 800 - 1200Β΅g K2 MK7 and within few days thoothache disappears due to healing of the cavities from the outside by saliva. Regularly I take less K2. But I allways take all co-factors of bone mineralization like magnesium, boron, a little bit calcium and Vitamin D3. Against arterial calcification I take Nattokinase. According to a study (Effective management of atherosclerosis progress and hyperlipidemia with nattokinase) 10.800 FU reduces calcification.
