Order your copy of The Let Them Theory 👉 https://melrob.co/let-them-theory 👈 The #1 Best Selling Book of 2025 🔥 Discover how much power you truly have. It all begins with two simple words. Let Them. — If you’re serious about achieving your goals, you need to hear this. Your family doesn’t have to understand your goals in order for you to pursue them. Your family can love you deeply and still not be the right support team for your dream. They haven’t done what you want to do. They don’t share your vision. And that means they might not ever really “get it.” And that’s okay. Your goals are meant for YOU. They are your responsibility - and when you stop searching for approval and permission from people who don’t understand what you want to achieve, you finally take ownership. Your real team is made of people who are doing the thing or trying to. In this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, I break down how to build the right support system for your goals - and 4 other science-backed habits for setting goals you can actually achieve. You’ll walk away with clarity, a sense of direction, and a simple plan to start pursuing something meaningful - even if life feels full right now. 100% agree just took me a while to figure that out. They also will never understand your voice or your deepest feelings. Never. Stop expecting it.

My family not only never supported me in anything in life, they abused, persecuted, and tore me down every chance they got.

Not everyone will understand your growth - that’s okay, it’s not their path!🙌🌟

Not everyone will understand your goals, and they do not have to. The people who are meant to build something different have to learn how to move without needing constant approval from the people around them.

I haven’t even watched yet, and I can’t wait. Let me tell you what happened to me when I expected my family to support me. I had graduated from college, passed the CPA exam, and told my father I wanted to go to law school, and was met with “Stop talking out of your ass.” Flip side, to my uneducated mother who needed a child to brag about, I was nothing unless I became an attorney (Watch the Mother Hunger with Mel and Kelly). It took me 20 years to muster the courage to go to law school, and now, at 65, I am working to grow a practice that would have been much easier to grow at 45. Love and trust yourself. No one knows you better than you! If you have no one who will support you, find people who will. Make all your dreams come true!

So glad for your message, Mel! Yes, this was a good reminder and tips as I often feel like I’m walking alone with some of my goals —family doesn’t always have your back.

So true, Mel. Let’s keep looking outward and upward for things and people that support us. Our families love us they way we are - of course any changes we say we want to make to ourselves cause them to go ‘whaaa?’
