Just ran my first full marathon today at 3 hours and 44 minutes. It felt great!
I feel like anything 3+ hours no one should get grief over illegal shoes
Used your training plan! I tweaked it slightly but nothing major. At first I was shooting for 4:15 (old PR 4:40) but my fitness grew a ton during the block and gained confidence to attempt a sub 4! Race day weather was 40, feels like 31, wind gusts up to 12mph and pouring rain…but I did it! 3:52 and a MASSIVE PR! So thank you for the guidance and looking forward to the next.
Read somewhere the other day “the marathon is just a victory lap, enjoy it” man I’m gonna ball like a baby when I get to the finish line in September
Here’s a tip I’ve used several times for international races: if you need safety pins for your bib (1:14), almost every hotel has “sewing kits” available at the front desk which have safety pins in them! Cheers!
Used your sub 3h training plan and ran 3:03 at Barcelona marathon last week (12min PB since October). I think I would make it sub 3 had I not developed plantar fasciitis (heel pain) week 9 into the training block. Up until then I followed it almost 99% but then had to reduce the mileage, introduce crostraining and take a lot of rest days. The marathon went well and I was on target till the "classic" 32km where i hit cramps and ran through huge pain and lost 4 minutes with slow pace. Moral of the story - Ben Parkes gives you very very good training plans, but still listen to your body and visit medical help if necessary. And don't skip strength training!
Thank you for all of your tips. I just ran my first marathon the LA marathon last weekend 5:20:39. Your channel is awesome.
I’ve never described the last 6 miles as magical Ben 😂😂😂
I think the rules for shoes shouldn’t apply to runners in the mass field (basically all runners in the larger start waves) because they are running a personal race and not a competitive one.
Get there early is right. I work NYC marathon. So many runners don’t arrive on time. Creates stress.
