Order your copy of The Let Them Theory 👉 https://melrob.co/let-them-theory 👈 The #1 Best Selling Book of 2025 🔥 Discover how much power you truly have. It all begins with two simple words. Let Them. — In today’s episode, you’re going to hear a conversation that will help you find meaning again - especially if you’ve been feeling lost, stuck, stretched thin, or quietly wondering, “Does any of this even matter?” Joining Mel is Ocean Vuong - one of the most acclaimed writers of our time and the bestselling author of On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. His newest book, The Emperor of Gladness, moved Mel so deeply she knew she had to bring him on the podcast - because Ocean has a rare gift: he puts words to feelings you’ve had, but never knew how to say out loud. Ocean is an award-winning poet, a MacArthur Fellowship “Genius Grant” recipient, and a professor at NYU. He writes and speaks about grief, love, identity, hardship, and hope with an honesty that doesn’t just hit… it stays with you. This episode is an invitation to pause, reset, and reconnect with yourself. It will help you stop judging where you are, release the pressure you’re carrying, and remember that you don’t need to become someone else to be worthy - or to build a meaningful life. Even if you’ve never read Ocean’s work, this conversation will feel like someone finally handed you the words you’ve been searching for. In this episode, you’ll learn: -How to find meaning even when you behind in life -How to move through grief without shutting down and let beauty exist alongside pain -Why chasing who you “should” be is keeping you stuck and how to come back to yourself -How to reconnect with yourself when you’ve been in survival mode for too long -How to feel calmer and more grounded when life feels uncertain - How to reprogram your mind for more positive thinking By the end of this episode, you’ll feel more hopeful, more centered, and more at peace with where you are - with permission to be exactly who you are, right now. I. Am. Crying. In my car. Outside my section 8 apartment. The part where Ocean talks about being a single mom (me), who is juggling how to navigate upward mobility with a newly graduated senior (he can work now, and will, but it will change our access to stable housing), and I feel shame. I have a dream to be a hospice nurse, I LOVE to write, and every single day I feel that deep sense of knowing I am called to more. I left an abusive marriage 17 years ago, with the goal to get up and out alive. To raise my son. And this year I turn 50. A beautiful conversation that HIT SO close to home. Thank you Ocean. Thank you Mel. I have hope and it is reflected in this conversation big time.

"No one has to escape to be worthy." That's the line we needed to hear today.

There are so many podcasts about how to be rich, how to be confident, and how to be healthy. They are all great. However, I think we need more podcasts like this, how to be kind. Thank you Mel and Ocean! This is the most soul healing conversation I have heard.

What a beautiful human. I should've gotten tissues before watching/listening to this conversation. Thank you, Mel, for giving Ocean a space to share his experience that we deeply connect with.

“A meaningful life is not a life that you use to prove to yourself and others that you are valuable. A meaningful life is finding power and value in where you are.”

ONE. OF. THE. BEST. At the end of our life, it doesn't matter how much money you have or what you achieved in life. It is the simple things that you get to spend with your family, the positive impact you left behind, and the peace you found in life. Don't waste your life chasing what doesn't matter.

Meaning doesn’t come from fixing yourself. It comes from accepting where you are and choosing how you show up next. That shift alone changes everything.
