The Most Effective Longevity Diet in the World
Spanish Mediterranean Diet Outperforms Others by Prioritizing Specific Fat Quality and Protein Sources
Discover why adherence to the Spanish variant of the Mediterranean Diet yields the maximum reduction in mortality risk compared to other regions, focusing on key nutrient differences found in the data.
Short Summary
- Achieve up to a 67% reduction in mortality risk by strictly following the Spanish Mediterranean dietary pattern, according to longitudinal studies reviewed.
- The primary divergence from Italian or Greek diets appears to be higher consumption of meat, eggs, and fish, suggesting fatty acid quality offsets higher carbohydrate intake for active populations.
- Shift focus from generalized carbohydrate intake to prioritizing high-quality monounsaturated fats (like olive oil) and consuming beneficial saturated fats from quality dairy.
This analysis compares adherence levels across Mediterranean regions, zeroing in on Spain to isolate factors driving superior longevity outcomes. Use these insights to refine your own dietary approach by emphasizing fat quality.

Meat, farm eggs, kippered herring, wild salmon, avocados, onions, garlic, olive oil, basalmic vineger, buckwheat kasha, arugula, homemade A2 kefir, homemade beet kvass, berries, organic cacao powder, spices in italian seasoning, turmeric, cinnamin, cloves, quality cheeses, organic coffee, dandelion and hibiscus tea. Pretty much covers my diet. Also lots of low angle sun in the morning, long walks, TRX, flow rope practice, hangs, dips, pullups, pushups and knee raises. I am 68 and feel so good sometimes I can hardly stand myself.
I'll tell you what happens im Greece. Greeks don't eat like Greeks anymore. I mean we might love our olives, feta, olive oil, tomatoes etc, we also like meat but there's a good amount of American-style diet that we've adopted. We still cook but we also like eating outside. We go to the supermarket and buy all those processed foods instead of buying them from a source where they're pure. Especially in big cities. I think the best part of Greece when it comes to diet habits is the island of Crete. A whole different story.
Hi from Spain! I think the biggest problem we´re facing with the rise in obesity is that in recent years the healthier versions of our traditional diet have gotten really expensive and people end up replacing them with cheaper lower quality options. Things like going from sourdough bread to ultra-processed supermarket bread, eating less beef, lamb or fishi, using less extra virgin olive oil and more sunflower oil or swapping quality curde meats for worse ones.
I live in Spain and I notice people consume a lot of olive oil, I met some people that drink it with lemon in the morning.
I'm from germany and we travel many times a year to spain. Not gonna lie the diet is not really like it was, they pretty much eat like we do in germany + a little more fish and hard (goat) cheese. But they also eat lots of pizza, taccos and all that. The reason why we feel so good there is because the vibe is amazing. Everyone is happy and friendly, the weather is amazing, the ocean is beautiful, they have locally great fresh fruits and the fish is fresh as well. And yes they move a lot which is always good
Don’t forget the Spanish pig, where they also get the jamon from, is High in omega 3s because they eat acorns. Also a lot of olive oil.
I saw a Spanish chickpea and cabbage recipe. That looked really good very healthy. They also say not to overcook the cabbage. It used canned chickpeas.
I made one change in diet and lost 15 lb in 3 weeks. I was 6'0" and bouncing off 200lb. Now 184, goal 180. Gave up all ultra processed foods and processed foods with more than 5 ingredients on the label. I make my meals from fresh meat, produce and bakery from the backery with no additives. I don't crave snacks as much, and when I snack, I make my own popcorn, cooked in olive oil with a light salt and fresh butter. Even though I haven't increased my exercise (doing the same running 3x a week + working outside) suddenly I have muscle definition I never had, and I really don't lift that much. When I now eat the odd white bread or have pizza when we treat the kids, one, I no longer overeat and am not hungry, and if I do eat too much (still less than I ate before) I feel awful. Once you break the cycle of CRAP, you will no longer crave it. Trust me.
Hello, I'm Spanish and you are right, the consumption of eggs was the basics of every day family eating, along with potato's and olive oil, those foods were cheap, easy to have and having big families.. my mum was the 3rd of 7 children was very important, like my mum has always said to me "we didn't have a lot of food choices but we never got ill at all" 😊
He says only eat whole food but then "HIGHLY RECOMMENDS" going to his processed food market for 30% off. 👌
