I always thought Dr. Ekberg exaggerated when talking about doctors getting mad when you ask questions but I experienced it during my last bloodwork myself. I ordered and paid extra for an Insulin test because I knew my blood sugar was "okay" (so far...). My results come in and I can tell the doctor I was assigned to really didn't have any time for this, quickly went through all my results and I had to interrupt her when she said "bloodsugar okay" - which was at 98 fasting by the way, just 2 points below the pre-diabetic cutoff. I asked for my insulin and she didn't even have that on her screen, looked it up and her response was "oh yeah, elevated... HOMA IR at 3.5" which is full blown insulin resistance. Great, 10 seconds ago you just told me I was completely fine! If I didn't pay extra I would never know and doctors would never bat an eye at a fasting blood sugar value of NINETY EIGHT... at age 33... I am now back to doing 2 months of Keto as that helped me lose 20 pounds in the past, hopefully this time I can make it a permanent lifestyle change and not just a phase.
If RFK, Jr doesn’t do anything else he needs to be make it mandatory for fasting insulin to be tested at yearly physicals and make insurance pay for it. I’m TOFI and prediabetic. I would have been diagnosed much sooner if they had done that one test.
*Key Points to Remember After You Watch The Video. (Thank Me Later):* 1. You can be insulin resistant for a long time without knowing it, because regular blood sugar tests often do not show the problem until it is very advanced (0:00 - 0:25). 2. Feeling hungry or having cravings just one or two hours after eating is a sign that your insulin is working poorly, causing your energy levels to crash (0:27 - 2:19). 3. Brain fog and trouble focusing happen because high insulin levels can block the brain from getting the fuel it needs to work properly (3:43 - 4:59). 4. Your body might store extra fat in your belly or liver even if your weight stays the same, which is sometimes called being thin on the outside but fat on the inside (5:00 - 6:55). 5. It becomes very hard to lose weight when your body is stuck in storage mode because high insulin prevents you from burning your stored fat for energy (6:56 - 8:46). 6. Having high triglycerides and low levels of good cholesterol (HDL) in your blood tests is a very common sign of poor metabolic health and insulin resistance (8:47 - 11:10). 7. High insulin levels can cause your body to keep too much salt and water, which makes your blood pressure slowly rise even when blood sugar looks normal (11:11 - 11:56). 8. Waking up in the middle of the night can be caused by stress hormones that your body releases because your blood sugar regulation is not stable while you sleep (11:57 - 14:04). 9. Having high uric acid levels is an early warning sign of insulin resistance that doctors can easily check for in a blood test before other problems show up (14:05 - 15:06). 10. Testing your fasting insulin along with your blood sugar gives you a much better picture of your health, as blood sugar is often the very last thing to change after years of insulin problems (15:07 - 22:46). I hope I can get to 1 million subscribers soon. 👍👍👍

Good morning Dr. Ekberg! Thanks for another great video! I can imagine the videos are a lot of work, but I am grateful! Hope your day is peachy! ☺️
I needed to hear this video. I checked all the boxes off 😢
At my last blood work with my doctor I asked to also have my fasting insulin checked. She wouldn’t do it and asked why in the world I wanted that checked saying my a1c and glucose are fine! So I’m going to a different doctor now who will test what I want!
Carnivore here! HOMA-IR is 0.5. Cheers!🎉
